Anna's Story

annas story

Anna's Alopecia:  Anna had been diagnosed with Alopecia Areata but had never seen a Trichologist.  Anna's journey was typical of Alopecia Areata, having had patches that had recovered well, only to find new patches developing, that had then  coalesced , (joined together) to give large patches of loss to the back of the head, that could no longer be disguised with her own hair.

As a Trichologist I was able to give Anna information about Alopecia that she hadn't heard about before, this gave Anna a sense of control over the condition, rather than feeling controlled by the condition.

Taking control of hair loss is very important in every hair loss condition as it can lessen the stress, which with Alopecia Areata is really important, as raised stress levels can exacerbate the spread and recurrence.

When Alopecia Areata is first apparent there are numerous supportive treatments that may help, as a Trichologist it is part of an hour long consultation and follow up report with fact sheets that sets my service apart from that of a typical GP or Dermatologist appointment.

Trichologists always take an holistic view of any condition covering, lifestyle, family history, diet, and medical history to arrive at both diagnosis and prognosis, with informed referral to medical professionals as necessary.

In the video Anna says how much it would have benefited her to know all of this information and how important access  to salons that could help her with wig style selections, customisation, and fittings.

Salons
A client like Anna needs your expertise in style, fitting and customisation, for synthetic wigs this could mean 2 - 4 visits each year, for human hair wigs 2 - 3 visits per year.

Step By Step Styling Details

Anna Robertson:

Ready to wear human hair wig, hand tied base.

Anna had a lot of her own hair, but had Alopecia Areata to the back of the head which has coalesced into a significant area of loss.

We fitted the wig and integrated Anna's own hair into the wig, rather than hiding it away underneath the wig itself.

We texturised and thinned the wig from the root down using a variety of cutting methods, slide cutting, razoring and point cutting.

The hair was then styled using flat irons to give body and finished with styling products.

Anna was shown how to put the wig on and how to take it off.  We also gave Anna plenty of tips about how to look after the wig and how to style it for herself.

Specialist human wig care products were provided by Banbury Postiche to keep both the hair and base in fantastic condition which should ensure that the wig lasts for 18 months+ .
